Wakakirin Shinichi (Ruo Qi Lin Zhen Yi , Wakakirin Shin’ichi) born on September 21, 1983, as Shinichi Suzukawa (Ling Chuan Zhen Yi , Suzukawa Shin’ichi) was an ex-sumo wrestling champion from Hyogo Prefecture of Japan. His highest ranking is maegashira 9. He was banned from wrestling in the month of February following being charged with possession of cannabis. In 2010, he became pro-wrestler.
Wakakirin was the 4th wrestler to be disqualified for cannabis use after Wakanoho, Roho and Hakurozan however, it was the very first Japanese. The same tests were conducted during September of 2008 which resulted in Roho and Hakurozan’s dismissal the report stated that the result of Wakakirin’s was borderline, which placed the wrestler in the spotlight.
The March 2009 banzuke or ranking list had a blank space where Wakakirin’s name should have been (jūryō 1 West). This previously occurred with Wakanohō and Tokitsuumi, who retired between tournaments after the expulsion of his stablemaster.
On January 30, 2009 Wakakirin was arrested for possession of cannabis, at a CD shop in Roppongi that had been monitored by police for some time. The following day, Oguruma, his stable master, declared his intention to dismiss him as a professional sumo wrestler in the wake of the scandal and submitted his letter of resignation to Japan Sumo Association by proxy. The Sumo Association fired him on February 2, deciding on dismissal rather than the heavier penalty of expulsion that would have deprived him of a 5.3 million yen retirement bonus.
He gradually recovered to his full fitness after a string of strong performances, he won his second makushita championship in the month of May 2007 with a flawless 7-0 score from the makushita rank 3. He was promoted into juryo. After scoring 10-5, in July and 9-6, the month of September, he was elevated to the makuuchi division’s top rank to compete in the tournament of November. In April 2005, the Oshiogawa stable was taken over by Oguruma stable due to Oshiogawa Oyakata’s retirement later in the year. Wakakirin was the 3rd stable member of the Oguruma stable who made his debut in the top division after Yoshikaze and Takekaze.

Born in Kawanishi He was a professional wrestler in the month of March 1999. The fourth professional in this class to be promoted to the top division following Kotomitsuki, Takamisakari and Hamanishiki but is the first following an appearance at bottom stage of sumo entry mae-zumo. He was a member of the Oshiogawa stable. He began wrestling under his own name and after achieving the second-highest juryo division for the first time in July 2004, His stablemaster Oshiogawa Oyakata honored him by naming him Wakakirin. It was the “Kirin” part of his name, which means giraffe or qilin had only been awarded to three wrestlers before him including his stablemaster (former Ozeki Daikirin) and Sekiwake, the former sekiwake Kirinji and Tamakirin who left sumo to make it a career as a wrestler.
Wakakirin achieved a staggering 10 wins in his debut in juryo, however in the month of January 2005, he was struck by an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament that required him to miss two tournaments and resulted in his demotion to the makushita division without a salary. The injury slowed the performance of his preferred tsuppari or thrusting techniques. even though he was able to return back to second division during January of 2006, it was only able to score four wins before being removed from the division again.
Wakakirin achieved ten wins in his top division debut, a feat that normally wins the Fighting Spirit Award, but he missed out, the prize going to Baruto instead. He was promoted to what was to be his highest rank of maegashira 9 for the January 2008 tournament, but disappointing scores of 4-11 there and 6-9 in March meant he was demoted back to the jūryō division. He missed out on a kachi-koshi winning score on the final day in May 2008, falling to 7-8. He scored 7-8 once again in July. He remained in the top half of jūryō after that, but did not win promotion back to the top division. He produced a good 9-6 score at jūryō 3 in January 2009 but lost to Tamawashi on the final day when a win would have virtually guaranteed a return to makuuchi.
