As part of the 2016, New Year Honours, Taumaunu was named to the rank of Officer in the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to netball.
The year 1998 saw Taumaunu got appointed the national the performance manager to oversee the performance of All England Netball, and continued in this position until 2003. At the time, she was also assistant coach of the England national team during its 2003 Netball World Championships campaign. In 2007, she was the director of the Capital Shakers in the National Bank Cup.

The birthplace of Taumaunu is Waipawa, New Zealand. She was a part of the Netball national team called the Silver Ferns, from 1981 until 1991. In her time there, she was in the team which took home at the 1987 Netball World Championships, and was Captain of her team for the final three seasons of her professional career.
The 1993 New Year Honours, Taumaunu was appointed an Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services to netball. She was admitted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame in the year 1996. From Ngati Porou as well as Ngai Tahu descent she was also admitted into the Maori Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
