Paraskevi (“Voula”) Patoulidou (Greek: Paraskeue “Boula” Patoulidou born 29 March , 1965) was born in Tripotamo (now part of Florina). A multi-faceted athletics enthusiast, Patoulidou throughout her athletics career competed in 100 metres, 100 meters hurdles, as well as in the long-jump events. Patoulidou became an Greek sports icon in 1992 when she was the surprising winner of the women’s 100 m hurdles during the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Patoulidou was a candidate for The Prefecture of Thessaloniki in the local elections in autumn 2006 that was supported by the opposition party PASOK However, she losing the election to Panagiotis Psomiadis.

The 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Patoulidou was a part of the 4 100m team. Following her Olympic gold medal, Patoulidou chose to go back into the long leap, the sport she first fell in passion in the belief that she had done the best she could in the 100m hurdles. Her decision was rewarded for her decision when she took part at her 2nd Olympic Games’ Final, in 1996’s Olympic Games in Atlanta, placing 10th.

She was also one of the penultimate runners of the 1996 torch relay in Atlanta, joining Evander Holyfield and Janet Evans.
