Virpi Sarasvuo Biography

Virpi Sarasvuo is one of the most popular and richest Cross-Country Skier who was born on May 20, 1976 in Kangasniemi, Southern Savonia, Finland. Virpi Katriina Sarasvuo (nee Kuitunen, born 20 May 1976) is a Finnish cross-country skier from the past who competed from 1995 until 2010. She was awarded an Olympic bronze medal in the sprint team event (with the help of Aino-Kaisa Sairinen) during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and was awarded her highest individual score of fifth at the sprint individual competition at the same Olympics. A year later, at Vancouver, Kuitunen won another bronze medal, this time in the 4 five-kilometer relay.

Kuitunen was the winner of the first Tour de Ski competition for women in 2006-07, taking the win the race against Norwegian Marit Bjorgen with a time of 1:17.5. She also took home in the entire season 2006-2007 Cross-Country Skiing World Cup, and Sprint World Cup the same season. In 2007-08, she won the overall. Kuitunen was again the overall winner.

Kuitunen has won eight medals at her participation in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, including six golds (2001 5 km and 5km combined pursuit; 2007.: team sprint with Riitta-Liisa Roponen 30 km and 4 x 5 km 2009: Team Sprint 4 x 5 km) One silver (2005 30 km) One bronze (2007 individual sprint). Kuitunen has also won 34 individual wins at different levels, with different distances, since 2000.
