The Virgil Paul “Virg” Bernero (born March 31 1964) is an American politician and the former Mayor in Lansing, Michigan, elected on November 8, 2005, and was reelected on November 3 2009. Bernero is an active member of the Democratic Party. Before he was elected city mayor Bernero was a legislator’s aide, as an Ingham County Commissioner, and was an elected Member of both the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate. Bernero was the Democratic candidate to be the Governor in Michigan during 2010, but lost in the primary against Republican Rick Snyder.

As being a participant of Waterford Mott High School, Bernero was elected class president three times. After graduating from the school around 1982, the student began his studies as a student at Adrian College (and was also class president three times) after which he graduated in 1986 with an B.A. with a major in politics.

Bernero was elected to the Michigan Senate on November 5, 2002, and served there until his election as Mayor three years later.
