He was born in Monterey, California and spent his childhood with his family in Venezuela, Mexico and Del Rio, Texas. At a very younger age Vincent utilized his creative flair to make artwork made from common objects. Vincent would sketch, paint and design small sculptures as young children. The majority in his first work, he was inspired by films and television especially westerns and science- fiction films. He graduated with an B.A. in History from Southwest Texas State University in 1994. He also worked as an apprentice at Michael Hall’s Studio Foundry during his final year of studies at the undergraduate level.

This year, the first World Fantasy Award was debuted. Vincent created Ed this award, and designs the trophies each year. The trophy depicts an unfurled tree with an full moon. It was replaced that of H. P. Lovecraft His racial insensitivity caused many to be uncomfortable. World Fantasy decided a new award that would be a tribute to the winners. The design of Villafranca was selected as the new award.
