Vincent Feeney (born 12 May 1973, Sligo), is a former Irish professional boxer who was known as “the Sligo Kid”, being from the Maugheraboy region in Sligo Town. Through the entirety of his professional life, Feeney competed in the bantamweight division, but also competed in the divisions on both sides.
in 1997 Feeney won the 1997 Sligo Sports Person of the Year in the boxing category. Since his retirement, Feeney has been a trainer for local youngsters at several Sligo boxing clubs. He is also appointed as a corner inspector with the Boxing Union of Ireland during professional matches.
In May 1998, Feeney was due to defend his British southern area bantamweight title against Aldershot based super bantamweight John Matthews, however, he suffered a cut during training and had to postpone a fight. The bout was rescheduled to August 1998 and took place at the Town Hall, Acton, London on the bill dubbed “Double trouble”. Feeney defeated Matthews on points over ten rounds to retain his southern area title and this led to Feeney getting a shot at a world title belt.
Feeney won three bouts quickly and was awarded the chance to fight again with Perdomo during November of 1996. Feeney was on the one of the main bill once more on the night of The York Hall with a card which also included Nikolai Valuev, John Ruiz and David Starie.

Feeney was the first professional fight in the month of October 1992 in the Bayswater Arena, London, England. In this fight , Feeney shared a draw against Bradford bantamweight Adey Benton in six rounds on in the undercard of a show which also comprised Cornelius Carr.
Feeney’s first title bout was in December 1995, against Willy Perdomo of the Dominican Republic at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London for the WBC International bantamweight title. Feeney came out to a great deal of celebration and was greeted by Irish dancers accompanying him, wearing a tricolor poncho, shorts and a headband in the arena. After six intense rounds of boxing, Perdomo defeated Feeney and stopped the Sligonian.
