Weber is a well-known strategist within the Republican Party, serving as an important advisor to the Dole to be President from 1996. on the Bush election campaign for reelection in 2004 and Romney running for President in the year 2008. Weber is the chairman of the National Endowment for Democracy, which is a private, non-profit entity that aims to consolidate democratic institutions across the globe through non-governmental efforts. Weber has been a fellow in the senior section of the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota in which he is the co-director of the Policy Forum. He is also as an Advisory Board member of the Institute for Law and Politics at the University of Minnesota Law School as well as the non-profit America Abroad Media. Weber is an active board member for numerous nonprofit and private sector entities such as ITT Educational Services, Department 56 and department 56, and the Aspen Institute. Weber is also as a member of the executive board for The Council on Foreign Relations and chaired The Independent Task Force on U.S. Policy toward Reform in the Arab World with former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Additionally, Weber is a member of the U.S. Secretary of Energy’s Board of Advisory Board.

Weber opened and managed the Washington, D.C. branch of lobbying firm Clark & Weinstock. In 2006, home mortgage giant Freddie Mac paid Weber $360,297 to lobby on its behalf to fend off meaningful regulation in the lead-up to the subprime mortgage crisis. Weber also lobbied for Gazprom, Russia’s state-owned natural gas company.

In 2011 Clark & Weinstock merged with Mercury, and Weber became a partner in the combined firm.

Weber did not contest reelection in 1992 and then resigned from Congress after his involvement in the House banking scandal where he was accused in writing 125 fake checks that amounted to nearly $48,000. He was secretary for the House Republican Conference and key advisor to the new Speaker Newt Gingrich He was widely regarded as one of the primary architects of the Republicans’ victory in 1994. He appeared for National Public Radio the following year on changes in Congress following the Republicans were elected to the House as well as providing comments regarding his views on the “revolution” he had helped to create. Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting said that Weber often voiced his opinion on NPR on health care issues, but he never disclosed that he was paid to lobbyist for various health insurance companies.
