Viktor Laiskodat is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on February 17, 1965 in Kupang, ****. Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat (born 17 February 1965) is an Indonesian politician, who serves as the governor in the eightth year of East Nusa Tenggara.

In 2017, the president of Indonesia Joko Widodo issued the executive decree (Peraturan Pemerintah Pengganti Undang-Undang) that allowed the government to demolish groups that it believes are opposed to the ideology of the state, with opposition parties and a number of rights groups condemning the move. Laiskodat was in favor of the law and criticized opposition parties by calling these “intolerant parties which support changing the government form to a khilafah” in the speech he delivered in August 2017 in Kupang. The opposition parties denied the allegations and filed a lawsuit against for defamation. Because of the immunity of legislators as well as his bid for gubernatorial office during the 2018 gubernatorial elections the case was remanded. Islamic groups that are part of the 212 movement then held protests to demand his arrest and trial on charges of the crime of blasphemy.

He resigned from the council to run as governor, and was replaced on 20 March 2018 by Jacki Uli.

In October 2019, Laiskodat publicly called for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to block access to Facebook in Indonesia, calling for the development of a local social media platform similar to the Chinese internet.

Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat was born as the eldest generation from Lazarus Laiskodat and Orpha Laiskodat Kase in Oenesu in the western region of Kupang Regency. He is a Protestant Christian. After completing his initial 12 years of college in Kupang at the age of 15, he enrolled in law at Jakarta’s Indonesian Law Institute (Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Hukum Indonesia) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the year 2000. In 2017 He was awarded his degree from Satya Wacana Christian University in Salatiga with the master’s degree in developmental studies.

He was elected first as a member of the People’s Representative Council as a member of Golkar in 2004 in NTT II district. NTT II district, which comprised Sumba, Timor, and the islands surrounding it. He was elected in 2009 but was unable to not get an office. In 2014, the candidate ran as a member of the Nasdem Party and won a seat with 77,555 votes – third position from a quota of seven. When he was in his second year as Council, he served as a member of Commission I and also was the Nasdem faction’s leader in the legislature. In the presidential election of 2014 the council member was part of Joko Widodo’s campaign team.

He ran for governorship of East Nusa Tenggara in the 2018 election. Paired with Josef Nae Soi as running mate, he won the four-candidate race with 838,213 votes (35.6%). Laiskodat was sworn in on 5 September 2018. Immediately after being sworn in, Laiskodat announced to media that he would put a moratorium on mining in the province. The moratorium was issued on 14 November 2018, but environmental activists criticized the regulation for only suspending mining activities in the province to evaluate existing regulations, instead of halting mining entirely.
