Viktor Petrovich Ivanov (Russian: Viktor Petrovich Ivanov , born May 12 1950 in Novgorod, Soviet Union) is a Russian businessman and politician. He is a an ex KGB officer who was as a member of the KGB Directorate of Leningrad and its successors between 1977 and 1994. He was director of the Federal Narcotics Service of Russia between 2008 and 2016.

In September 2001, Russia’s premier minister was appointed Ivanov as a state representative in the board of directors of Antei Corporation and Almaz Scientific Industrial Corporation which is creating and manufacturing air defence systems which include S-300. In November 22nd, 2001 Ivanov was elected chairman of Almaz’s board of directors at Almaz and also initiated an agreement to merge Almaz as well as Antei. Since June 2002, Ivanov is the director-at-large for the outcome of the merger OJSC Almaz and Antei Air Defense Concern.

Since May 15, 2008, he has been a director of Russia’s Federal Service for the Control of Narcotics and a chairman of State Anti-Narcotics Committee, which includes 29 heads of Russian ministries.

In 2010, when the State of California in the United States had a ballot initiative asking voters about the legalization of marijuana, Ivanov public spoke out against it. He flew to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., to lobby against drug legalization, meeting with the Los Angeles mayor, Los Angeles county sheriff, and U.S. drug czar.

In October 1994, he quit in October 1994 from FSK and was appointed the Chief of Staff for the Administration of the Saint Petersburg Mayor Office. In 1999, he was succeeded by Nikolai Patrushev as the head of the Department of Internal Security that is part of the Russian FSB. Since January 5, 2000 Viktor Ivanov has been the Vice Head of the Presidential Staff for personnel appointed by Vladimir Putin. Viktor Ivanov is considered one Putin’s most trusted allies.
