Bruce was awarded the President’s Prize from BPS in 1997. She was also co- winner from the BPS book award along alongside Andy Young in 2001 and the BPS Cognitive Psychology Award along with Mike Burton and Peter Hancock in 2000. She was awarded the distinction of an honourary DSc in 2002 from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2002, as well as at University of St Andrews in 2007. She was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her ‘Services to Psychology in 1997. In the Queen’s Birthday Awards, she received the honour of being made a Dame Commander in the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her services to higher education and psychology’.

Dame Victoria Geraldine Bruce, DBE CPsychol FBPsS FRSE FBA (born on January 4, 1953) also commonly referred to as Vicki Bruce is an English psychologist, professor of Psychology and the former Director of the School of Psychology at Newcastle University. She is well-known for her work in the field of human face perception and memory for people which includes face recognition as well as recall through eyewitnesses, the gaze as well as various other aspects related to social cognition. She also is interested in the visual aspect of cognition in general. She was named an Dame on the 2015 Birthday Honours list.

Bruce was instructor in Newcastle University before moving to the University of Nottingham as a Lecturer in 1978. There, she became a Reader before becoming Professor in 1990. In 1992, she joined the University of Stirling, where she was Deputy Principal of Research from 1995 to 2002. From 2002 to 2008 she was Vice Principal and Head of the College of Humanities and Social Science at the University of Edinburgh. In 2008 she was named Head of the School for Psychology of Newcastle University, a role she held until the year 2015. She continues to work in Newcastle University as a Professor of Psychology.

Bruce is an Honorary Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a Fellow of the British Academy, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. She was President of the BPS in 2001 and is President Elect of the Experimental Psychology Society, to assume the role of President from 2010.
