Vicki Barnett was born August 8, 1954, to an ethnically Jewish family from Detroit, Michigan. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University Michigan, Dearborn in 1983 after which she earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1991, as well as at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Barnett has been an investment consultant for LPL Financial in Farmington Hills since 1999. She is licensed as an accident, life and health insurance representative. Barnett was married to her attorney husband, Mark Steckloff, in 1981 They have two children: Samantha as well as Jordan. She is a member of the Roosevelt Group of the Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadassah the American Jewish volunteer women’s organization.

In 2010 Barnett kept her seat by putting in an a stronger performance in the race against Republican Chris Atallah, garnering 61% of the votes. Barnett was then appointed House Minority Whip.

She was the Democratic candidate in 2016 for the race of Oakland County Executive against Republican L. Brooks Patterson.

In 2008 Barnett announced her intentions to contest the 37th State House seat, which was made vacant by the resignation of long-time Democratic State House member Aldo Vagnozzi, who was unable to not be re-elected because of term limits. Barnett won the Democratic primary, and she faced Republican Paul Welday in the General Election. The popularity of Barnett as the Mayor has led to the victory of 60%-40% over Welday.

Vicki Barnett (born July 8th in 1954) is an ex- House Minority Whip in the Michigan State House of Representatives and a an ex-mayor in the city of Farmington Hills, located in Oakland County. In the years 2012 and 2010, she was elected to the seat as the Democrat for the 37th State House District, located in Oakland County and covering the cities of Farmington and Farmington Hills. The year 2008 was the first time Barnett became the first person elected to this seat which was opened after Aldo Vagnozzi resigned due to the expiration of his term.

Barnett became a member of the Farmington Hills City Council in 1995. She held this post until 2003 at which time she was elected Mayorand served until 2007.

Barnett won her third and final term on November 6, 2012 by her largest margin, over Republican Bruce Lilley. Barnett received almost 62% of votes cast in Farmington and Farmington Hills. Facing term limits, Barnett announced in late 2013 she was running for the Michigan State Senate’s 14th District, but never qualified for the primary election.
