Victor Anthony “Vic” Fedeli (born August 8 1956) is a Canadian executive, entrepreneur politician, philanthropist and politician who is the Minister for Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade of Ontario.

The divestiture announcement was not anticipated as then-Liberal chief Dalton McGuinty had signed a commitment in 2002 to not privatize the company, and during the 2011 election, it was announced that the Progressive Conservatives had committed to transfer control of the corporation to the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines to the Ministry of Transportation, and enhance the commission’s capital spending capabilities by granting the commission access to infrastructure spending.

In the 2006 mayoral election, Fedeli was challenged by Stan Lawlor. Despite Lawlor’s high profile as a former mayor and candidate for the Liberal Party of Ontario, Fedeli was re-elected with more than two-thirds of the vote.

In 2009, Fedeli launched an effort to win exemption for Canadian businesses from the Buy American provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

When he was in 1992 Fedeli was co-chairman of the Nipissing University expansion fundraising campaign which raised $250,000 to help fund the Vittorio Fedeli Business Centre, named in honor of his father. In the early days, it was the largest contribution that the university has ever received, and was an important portion from the $3.7 million that was raised through the campaign. In the following years, Canadore College enlisted Fedeli to chair the campaign to create the construction of a School of Aviation. A contribution of $100,000 was given by Fedeli to build an auditorium named in honor of his father. Fedeli later donated another $100,000 to Canadore noting that he relied on the school for an employment source when he launched his own marketing firm.

The year was 1978 when Fedeli came back to North Bay and established Fedeli Advertising which was at the time , the only full-service agency for marketing within Ontario North of Barrie. In 1989, Profit placed the company 34th on its list of the 50 most desirable places to work in Canada. Fedeli was also named one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs in an episode of MoneyMakers presented by Everett Banning. Fedeli Advertising was sold in 1992.

Fedeli was a member for ten years as a member of the board of directors for the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce and District Chamber of Commerce, including as the president in 1986. Fedeli also been director for Global Vision and the provincial government’s Northern Businesses Support System. The federal government relocated 414 Squadron out of Canadian Forces Base North Bay in 1992, the majority of the buildings were considered surplus. Although a portion of the base was destroyed, a portion of the airfields were transferred in 1996 to the nonprofit Air Base Property Corporation in 1996. Fedeli was the year-long dollar-a-year chairman until the year 2002. In this time, he was involved in a suit with the Canadian government, which led to the award of $3 million to ABPC. The settlement with the court permitted the company to repair and improve the property and also to reimburse Fedeli for the expenses he personal expenses to ensure that the ABPC running. It was largely due to his involvement with ABPC Fedeli has been named the North Bay’s Citizen of year in the year 1999. Fedeli also was awarded the Rotary International Paul Harris Fellowship in 1999. He also was presented with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002.

In 2003, Fedeli made his first run for elected office. He was swept into the mayor’s chair running on his ‘2020 Vision’ campaign platform with 75% of the vote, easily defeating three challengers including former deputy mayor Lynne Bennett.

In an effort to draw a contrast with this, Fedeli and his caucus colleague Norm Miller undertook a tour of northern communities to meet with various stakeholders in June 2012.
