Venissa Head is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on September 1, 1956 in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, United Kingdom. Venissa Anne Head (born 1 September 1956 in Merthyr Tydfil) was a former international athletics track and field champion from Wales.

She was a member of the British Olympic team for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where she also competed at the throw of discus as well as shot put. In the discus throw, she threw 55.24 meters in qualifying which was 24 centimetres higher than the distance needed to be qualified for the final and was the fastest mark needed to automatically be qualified. She placed 8th overall and 6th in group A qualifying. In the final, she placed seventh, with the best throw of 58.18 metres, which she achieved at the end of the third round. The shot put was where she came in sixth, with throwing 17.90 meters, in a race which was straight to the final because only 13 entrants were entered as a result of the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott.

She was inducted into the Welsh Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.

The athlete is also her British indoor indoor shot put champion her personal best being 19.06 metres , set on the 7th April 1984. The put also puts her in the second spot in the all-time record list overall. The second-ranked athlete was on the British discus all-time list until the 27th of February in 2016 after a throw made from Jade Lally relegated her to third.

She attended secondary school in Cyfarthfa Castle Grammar School in Wales It was while at Cyfarthfa Castle Grammar School that she was awarded her first of her 15 Welsh title in shot-put when she was 17 years old. She was awarded 25 Welsh titles in a row, and she won 10 consecutive discus titles being won between 1979 and 1988.

She competed in the first IAAF World Championships in 1983 she competed in the shot put and discus throw. When it came to the shot put competition, she came in 5th in Group A qualifying with a throw of 18.41 meters. She put a lower 18.05 at the end, finishing 10th overall. This was the top result ever for any British athlete. There is no way that British athletes have been to the finals in the years since. In the discus, she came in 8th in the Qualifying Group B with an average throw of 53.78 This meant that she didn’t make it into the last.

Head also represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games, winning the silver medal in the discus throw at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
