In 2016 Vlasov was elected a deputy to the State Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia, as a student at the university. Following the election for the State Duma, he resigned as the head of the youth group within the Liberal Democratic Party. He is the representative of his Leningradsky Constituency located in Moscow. His first day of office was on October 5, 2016 at the age of 21 and three months. He is an active participant in the Committee on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs.

In November of 2016, Vlasov and fellow LDPR deputy Boris Chernyshov prepared a bill that would lower the age at which people can vote for voters in Russia by a factor of 16 from the age 18. This has been the policy for the LDPR in the past since 2013, indicating its popularity with young people. The bill was quickly rejected by government officials from the Russian government. Vlasov has also proposed reducing prices for student trains in order to increase the tourism in Russia, especially outside the summer season as well as to increase participation of youth to sporting and cultural events.

Vasily Maksimovich Vlasov (Russian: Vasilii Maksimovich Vlasov born 27 June 1995 in Moscow) is a Russian politician. It is the deputy in the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the VII convocation beginning 5 October 2016. From April 2019 he has been the first vice head of the State Duma committee on natural resources, land and property relations.

Following the rejection of their proposal to lower the voting age, Vlasov and Chernyshov advanced a similar proposal within the LDPR in January, 2017. Vlasov suggested that involving people in political parties between the ages of 16 and 18 would help address declining turnout in elections, and lead to wider involvement in the political process.
