Vanessa Isabelle Vandy (born 14 May 1989) is an NZ-born Finnish cinematographer, film director as well as a former pole vaulter. She is the national outdoor and indoor champion in the pole vault. She was she was also an Olympic bronze medalist at the 2010 European Athletics Under-23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania.

As of 2009 Vandy was able to increase her personal record of 4.36 metres when she placed second in the Elite World Championships in Lapua in Lapua, just behind colleague Minna Nikkanen. Vandy also took home an Olympic bronze in the European Athletics Under-23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania, with a dazzling height of 4.35 meters.

Vandy is currently working as a film director and cinematographer. Her style lies in her ability to move people, to capture their attention and to evoke an emotion. Her first short film, Farewell, was selected as a finalist in One Screen 2017 Film Festival’s Free The Bid – new female director category.

The next the following year Vandy made her debut season when she jumped her personal record of 4.31 metres in an athletics event at Sopot, Poland. She also placed sixth during the 2008 IAAF World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz and also won her second title of her career at the national championships for outdoor athletes in Tampere and earned her a qualification spot to the Olympics.

In 2007 Vandy made her debut on the international stage in her first European Junior Championships, where she was seventh at the female pole vault. She also set a personal record of 4.15 meters when she won the bronze award during the Finnish Elite Series in Lahti with a clear lead over colleague Minna Nikkanen, who cleared over 4.05 meters. After the event, she continued to outdo Nikkanen during the match between Sweden and Gothenburg and, most important in the Finnish Indoor Championships in Joensuu where she won her first title in her career at the Pole vault.

In 2008’s Summer Olympics held in Beijing, Vandy successfully cleared the high of 4.00 meters at the pole vault for women. This event was later won by world record holders Yelena Isinbayeva from Russia. Vandy however, was not able to make it into the finals, since she was placed in the bottom third of the qualifying rounds. She tied her place alongside the Tunisian Leila Ben Youssef.

In early 2011, Vandy announced her retirement from pole vault to focus on and pursue her career in filmmaking, having suffered knee problems for the past few years.
