Later, he attended Glenalmond College, Perthshire, Scotland and then went on to Trinity College, Dublin and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
Bunbury was a co-host on The Genealogy Roadshow on RTE television between 2011 and 2014. Bunbury also hosted Hidden Histories on Newstalk Radio in 2013. He was co-writing the document John Henry Foley: Sculptor of the Empire. He has also been featured on the BBC1 show Wogan’s Ireland and on scenes from the American version as well as the Irish edition of Who Do You Think You Are? TV show.
In 2001, Bunbury began working with The Vanishing Ireland project with photographer James Fennell. The project resulted in four books. A critique in the Irish Independent of the first book noted that it was “written with sympathy, understanding and gentle humour”. The books also were nominated as the Best published by Irish publishers of the year during the Irish Book Awards.
