Tuffy Rhodes is one of the most popular and richest Baseball Player who was born on August 21, 1968 in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Karl Derrick “Tuffy” Rhodes (born on August 21 1968) is a retired American professional baseball player. He played for six years playing in Major League Baseball in the US and 13 years with Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan. Rhodes has the record for all time as an NPB lead in home runs for foreign players. He is 11th place overall by hitting 464 home runs from Japan. He scored the record of 55 homers in 2001 which was equal to the NPB single- season record established by Sadaharu Oh in 1964.
The following season, in conjunction together with gaijin’s slugger Alex Cabrera, Rhodes hit 40 homers and drove in 118 runs. Together, Cabrera and Rhodes, who gained the nickname “Caburo” late in the season, hit home runs of 76 and scored 222 runs. Rhodes with scores of 118 RBI also led the league . Buffaloes had a chance to make an unlikely run into the playoffs and finished third to the Pacific League and making their first appearance in the playoffs since their 1995 Japan Series victory. However, the triumph didn’t last because the Buffaloes were eliminated in the first round in the Pacific League Climax Series by Yu Darvish and the more established Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters. Rhodes was a player for the remainder of the campaign with Orix before stepping down at the conclusion of the 2009 season.
After Kintetsu refused to sign him to a multi-year contract, Rhodes signed a two-year deal with the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese Central League in 2004. A successful first year was followed by a difficult second year. He left the team halfway through the 2005 season due to injury, and was released in the off-season.
After spending the rest of 2006 with his family, however, he returned to Japan in 2007, signing a one-year contract with the Orix Buffaloes. After 10 seasons in NPB, Rhodes became just the second foreign player to accrue the required service time to no longer be counted as a foreign player for roster purposes, joining Tai-Yuan Kuo. In the past decade, Alex Ramírez and Alex Cabrera have also achieved the same classification.
After his 1995 campaign, Rhodes signed with the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the Pacific League of the NPB.
