Tsuyoshi Yoda (Yu Tian Gang , Yoda Tsuyoshi, born on December 4, 1965 in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan) is a Japanese professional player and coach of baseball. He is currently the coach for the Chunichi Dragons in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
In addition to his role as an assistant, Yoda had shoulder and elbow problems. He was not able to post any noteworthy outcomes after just four seasons of playing. In the middle of this season in 1996 Yoda became a trade partner of the Chiba Lotte Marines for Naoyuki Naito and later that same year, he enrolled in studying abroad as a member of The Memphis Chicks of the Class AA Southern League. However elbow injuries restricted him. When he returned back to the Marines, Yoda failed to make any appearances on the first team and was then released during the off-season of 1997.
The Hanshin Tigers would give Yoda another chance to revive his career in 2000 with then manager Katsuya Nomura mentioning in spring training that he was among the shortlist for closer. After pitching well in a pre-season game, Yoda was unable to get out of bed the following day following lumbar pain. Unable to fully recover, Yoda pitched in two farm games before eventually being released in the fall.
From 2001 to 2015, Yoda served as a color analyst for NHK baseball broadcasts. During this time, Yoda was also a columnist for Tokyo Chunichi Sports Shimbun as well as serving as a pitching coach for the Japan women’s national baseball team and club team, Thousand Leaf Ichihara.
On the day Yoda made his debut as a player with The Taiyo Whales, there was an exchange of hands between Whales teammate Yoshiyuki Shimizu and Dragons catcher Takeshi Nakamura that almost led to a fight. Then, on the 22nd of June 1994, following a smacking of Whales outfielder Glenn Braggs, Yoda failed to raise his hat, leading to Braggs taking to the mound. Yoda as well as Braggs were kicked out of the game incident of a brawl on the bench.

In 1989’s NPB Draft Yoda was selected in the first round by the Chunichi Dragons after showing a preference for a team that was not from Tokyo. Yoda signed a pro forma contract that included a Y=75,000,000 signing bonus, and a yearly salary.
Yoda’s first appearance was the 7th of April, 1990 in his team the Yokohama Taiyo Whales on opening day. In the 11th inning , with the bases loaded with runners the 1st and 3rd, he pitched two strikeouts in the closing stages of his innings. From that point , Yoda was promoted to the full time closer under manager Senichi Hoshino. He was promoted to full-time closer on June 1, he had a record of with double-digit saves. Yoda won the vote of fans to play in 1991’s All-Star game and later score 31 saves, in addition to winning The Rookie of the Year award and the Most valuable reliever award. On August 15 in Hiroshima Municipal Stadium, Yoda was able to throw a 157km/h fastball that was the time a Japanese record. After the 1990 seasonended, Yoda played in the team consisting of Japanese all-stars. They played against American all-stars.
He signed for the Nippon-Ham Fighters in 1998 via a try-out. The Fighters without a full-time closer had hoped Yoda would make the team, but he ended the season failing to make an appearance for either the top or farm team. However, due to pitching well in the fall development league he stayed with the team for a further year. On 2 October 1999, Yoda made his first pitching appearance in 4 years but was released at the end of the year.
