Saunders’s grandfather was a All-American wrestling champion in the University of Michigan in 1930 Her father and her brother Jamie, who was older than her, Jamie were also wrestlers. As a young girl she would join her brothers on their training. Tricia was seven years old when she announced she was bored of watching. Her father asked her if she would like to wrestle, and she answered with a yes. In her first competition at the age of nine she took seven wins out from her 9 matches all of them against boys. At the time she was able to compete in her “Regional Nationals”, she was a force to reckon with in the weight 50 pounds class.
Tricia has been married for a while with Townsend Saunders, the 1996 Olympic freestyle wrestler who won the silver medal. They have three children: twin daughters Tassia as well as Tatiana and one Son, Townsend.
In 2006, Saunders became the first woman to be inducted as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. In 2011, she was inducted into the United World Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Tricia Saunders (born as Patricia McNaughton; February 21 26th, 1966 , in Ann Arbor, Michigan) is an American amateur wrestler. She is an absolute pioneer in the sport of Women’s Freestyle Wrestling. She was awarded five FILA Wrestling World Championships gold medals including four gold as well as one bronze. In her entire career, she was never defeated by an American and won 11 national titles.
Saunders was featured as a guest on the 1975 episode in the syndicated edition To Tell The Truth.
Saunders became one of the first coaches of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Wrestling Team at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens.
