Trevor David Steel was born in 1958 in Hampstead, London, United Kingdom. In the beginning of the 1980s, Steel was a member of the dance-rock group Mad Shadows, and by 1982, the band was comprised of Steel on vocals as lead, John Holliday on lead guitar, Hermann Profile, and Milan Zekavica (ex-The Expressos) on drums. They were a part of electronic rock musician Stephen Milford on his Planning by Numbers release 1: Catch the Beat (1982) which featured Steel played the rhythm and lead guitars, and Holliday was a bass player. in 1983 Steel, Holliday and Zekavica joined forces to form an alternative rock band, The Escape Club, along with Zekavica’s previous Expressos teammate Johnny Christo (aka John Christoforou) playing bass guitar. Their debut single in 1983, “Breathing”, was released by Bright Records. It was written by Steel together with co-writers from The Escape Club band members. They signed in 1985 with EMI who released their debut album, White Fields. In 1988, their second album, Wild Wild West, was released on Atlantic Records. The title track as well as the lead single was ranked the top spot at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was co-written by Steel together with Christoforou, Holliday, Zekavica and UK pop singer-songwriter Amos Pizzey. It was released by the Escape Club released two more singles from Wild, Wild West, “Shake for the Sheik” which peaked at No. 28, and “Walking Through Walls” which was the highest-rated single at No. 81. The band came out with their 3rd album Dollars & Sex, in the month of March, 1991. It included the No. number 8 hit single “I’ll Be There”.

In the year 2010, Steel and Holliday re-formed The Escape Club to perform and make an album called Celebrity that was released in February 2012 under the label they own Whipped Cream Records. On April 12, 2012 The Escape Club performed on tour across all over the US East Coast in support of the album as well as the lead single, “God’s Own Radio”.

In 2004, Steel moved to Australia in 2004 where he was enlisted from Universal Records to A&R the music for the defunct Channel Seven talent search series, Popstars Live. Following the dismissal of two judges, fired, Steel appeared on the panel that voted on the judges along with Molly Meldrum and Shauna Jensen. After discovering the band the band Short Stack, Steel signed them to his record label, Sunday Morning Records, which was founded by Chris Johns in Sydney. Short Stack’s first album Stack Is the New Black (2009) reached No. 1 . on the ARIA Albums Chart. It was co-produced by Steel and Short Stack’s Shaun Diviney. Their second album This Is Bat Country charted at the top of the charts, No. 6. Both albums were certified gold from ARIA for shipments of 35,000 units per album. Steel wrote a number of tracks for This is Bat Country with Diviney and Diviney, including the platinum-selling single “Planets”, which debuted at No. 4. Steel also produced their second album.

Trevor David Steel (born January 5 1958, in Hampstead) is an English musician, singer and guitarist. He is a key member of the band called alternative rock, The Escape Club, that was formed in 1983. The group broke up in 1992 and was returned in 2009. In 1988, along with others from The Escape Club, he wrote their number one Billboard Hot 100 hit “Wild, Wild West”. Steel has also been an engineer and producer, as well as owning the label. In 2004, he moved to Australia and was an judge on the talent show, Popstars Live. In 2006, Steel established a record label, Sunday Morning Records, together with Chris Johns in Sydney, the two of them co-managed the pop punk band Short Stack from 2007 to the year 2011. Steel produced the group’s first two albums with their singer-songwriter Shaun Diviney.
