Denman was born in Germiston, Gauteng, South Africa. A part-time jockey as well as an exercise rider, he began his career as a race announcer in his home country of South Africa in 1971 at the age of 18 years old. He was announcing two races for Santa Anita Park in 1983 and was then hired to be the announcer for the race’s Oak Tree meet. He was appointed Santa Anita’s official announcer the following year. He also has called races for Del Mar Racetrack, Pimlico Race Course, Laurel Park Racecourse and Hollywood Park Racetrack.

In the 1989 comedy film Let It Ride starring Richard Dreyfuss and Terri Garr, Denman is the track announcer who is featured in a variety of racing scenes which took place on Hialeah Park which is located in Hialeah, Florida. Trevor Denman was also the announcer in the film Racing Stripes during the race.

In December 2015, Denman announced that he would be retiring as Santa Anita’s race caller after 33 years. He plans to continue calling races at Del Mar, while spending the rest of the time either on his Minnesota farm or traveling.
