In 1975, when Needham was 8 years old, her parents moved to Denver, Colorado, and her father’s work dictated the family move back and forth between the two cities. She attended both Cherry Creek High School and Plano Senior High School.

She spent her childhood in Dallas, Texas and Denver, Colorado. She and fellow television actor Tommy Hinkley married in 1995 and welcomed a daughter named Katie in 1999.
