Tommaso Caputo (born 17 October 1950) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who was employed as a diplomat for the Holy See from 1980 to 2012 after which he was appointed the Territorial Preslate for Pompei.
To get ready for a career in diplomatic service, He enrolled at into the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in 1976. There, he received a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University. Caputo was appointed to the diplomatic service that is part of the Holy See on 25 March 1980. He was in positions at the Apostolic Nunciatures in Rwanda (1980-1984) as well as The Philippines (1984-1987), Venezuela (1987-1989) as well as in the Secretariat of State (1989-1993). On June 19, 1993, the Holy See appointed him Head of Protocol within the Secretariat of State.
