Thomas Stephen Gorzelanny (born July 12th 1982) is an ex- American professional baseball player who is the current pitching coach at the University of Iowa. He was a part of Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians.
Gorzelanny was able to earn a place in the rotation during 2007. He was among five players from the National League that would be selected by a final fan vote to be the final player in the NL roster for the 2007 MLB All-Star Game. Gorzelanny had 14-10 for the Pirates which saw him lead his fellow Pirates in wins. He also finished with more than 200 innings, and an ERA of 3.88.
Gorzelanny was traded on July 30, 2009 to the Chicago Cubs along with John Grabow for Kevin Hart, José Ascanio, and minor league third baseman Josh Harrison, and assigned to the Chicago Cubs Triple-A affiliate, the Iowa Cubs. He was called up to start on August 4, 2009, and got his first win as a Cub. He went on to make seven starts for the Cubs, earning a record of 4–2 and ending the season in the bullpen. Between the Pirates and the Cubs, he was 7–3 with a 5.55 ERA in 2009.
After Spring Training, Gorzelanny began the 2009 season at Triple-A Indianapolis. In May, he was recalled to pitch from the bullpen after injuries to the Pirates’ roster. He was optioned back to Triple-A after several weeks with Pittsburgh. In nine appearances with Pittsburgh, he was 3–1 with a 5.19 ERA.
Gorzelanny started his career in 2005 , pitching for his Double-A Altoona Curve. The pitcher was able to make his Major League debut with the Pirates in September. He started with the Houston Astros and pitching 4 1/3 innings before taking the loss. The beginning year 2006 Gorzelanny was traded by Triple-A Indianapolis Indians. Gorzelanny was picked to represent the US team at the 2006 All-Star Futures Game, but was not eligible because he was summoned to the Pirates. On June 29th of 2006 the Pirates made Gorzelanny to take over Oliver Perez in the starting rotation. Gorzelanny made his debut on July 1st in 2006, against the Detroit Tigers. Through 11 innings, his record went 2-5 and had an 3.79 ERA.

Gorzelanny was selected in the 38th round of 1999 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox but opted to play in the college game instead of immediately pursuing an aspiring professional career. He played redshirted his first season at the University of Kansas and posted 3-7 with an 5.90 earned run rate as an undrafted freshman for the Kansas Jayhawks. Gorzelanny was found to be academically ineligible prior his sophomore season . He was then moved into Triton College, a community college located in Illinois. Gorzelanny was drafted by Triton during the 2nd round (45th in the overall) in the 2003 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In 2008, Gorzelanny suffered from control problems with his pitches, walking 61 batters and giving up 99 hits in his first 87⅔ innings of work. After a difficult start to the first half of the season, Gorzelanny was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis in July. He was recalled to Pittsburgh several weeks later after a successful tenure in Indianapolis, but ultimately failed to regain his 2007 form. He finished the 2008 season 6–9 with a 6.66 ERA.
