Tofik Dibi is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on November 19, 1980 in Vlissingen, Zeeland, Netherlands. Tovek “Tofik” Dibi (born on November 19, 1980, from Vlissingen) was a previous Dutch politician from GreenLeft (GroenLinks). He was a member of Parliament from the 30th of November 2006 to 19 September 2012. He focused on issues of security, criminal law and security, youth, family and integration.

In May 2012, he made the public announcement of his own candidature to be on his position on the GroenLinks listing for election in September 2012. The internal elections were lost against Jolande Sap, who won 12percent of the votes against Saps 84 percent. Dibi was not reelected to his seat in parliament. Following his resignation from parliament, he re-enrolled at the university, where he continued his studies until 2014, and left without any degree.

On the 13th of January, 2007 Dibi was detained and then released, while pamphleteering in support of Dutch political figure Geert Wilders along with other people belonging to the International Socialists. The posters they used to promote their cause were admonishing Wilders “an extremist” and “harmful to society”.

Dibi is from Moroccan descent. He completed his studies in Media and Culture at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in film. He incorporated his studies with activities within the Marxist Turkish Workers Union, which is based in the Netherlands (Turkish: Hollanda Turkiyeli Isciler Birligi (HTIB), Dutch: Turkse Arbeidersvereniging in Nederland) and in his neighborhood of Bos en Lommer in Amsterdam. Along with his fellow Trotskyist International Socialists, he was the initiator of the national demonstration Stop Bush! organizing protests after George W. Bush visited the Netherlands in 2005. He also founded his national action committee Enough is Enough, which was focused on discrimination against Muslims.

In September 2006, Dibi was astonished to be seventh place on the lists of GreenLeft for the general elections. He was then elected for the House of Representatives in November 2006. The GreenLeft screening committee declared him “a political talent”, to Dibi’s surprise as he hadn’t taken his decision to run seriously. In the early days, he was the youngest in the parliament. Due to his background, he focused on improving the opportunities of immigrants in the bigger cities.

He released an autobiographical novel, Djinn, in October 2015. The novel deals with his struggles with his homosexuality, which he had kept secret during his time as a member of parliament, his Muslim background, and his political career.
