Lichti began his professional career when he was selected with the 15th selection by the Denver Nuggets in the 1989 NBA Draft. As a member of the Nuggets He performed admirably in his debut campaign (8 scores per game) and then improved during the subsequent campaign (14 point per game) however knee injuries restricted him to 29 games out of 82. A variety of injury issues (including the involvement in a fatal crash that killed his fiancée, Kirstin Gravrock of Bellevue, Washington) further kept him from playing at a high level. Lichti continued to play in Denver until he was injured for the second time, until the 19th of August, 1993 after which he was traded to the Orlando Magic for Brian Williams. He played 13 games for three teams prior to being dismissed to the Golden State Warriors in 1993-94 the season’s final NBA season.
The last time he played was during his time in the Australian National Basketball League with the Perth Wildcats. Lichti’s selection was partly due to his relationship with his native Perth athlete Andrew Vlahov, with whom was a teammate at Stanford. Lichti played in 82 games during four seasons with the Wildcats from 1996 to 1999. He had impressive NBL statistics over the course of his career, including 16.8 scores, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per match.
