Tina Nedergaard was born on March 28, 1969, in Aarhus, Denmark to a family of farmers. When she was in 1988, Nedergaard was a student at the high school of Hobro, Denmark specializing in math and social sciences. After graduation, she earned an MS in political science from Aarhus University in 1997.

In her second term as the Folketinget, Nedergaard was selected to be the Minister for Education in Denmark 23 February 2010, following an overhaul of the cabinet. While serving as the educational minister Nedergaard suggested that Danish secondary schools to offer Chinese as a second language. On March 8, 2011, Nedergaard left her position as minister of education following her resignation from Birthe Roenn Hornbech owing to personal issues. Her second term in the Folketing ended in 2015.

In her campaigning career in politics, she served as a spokesperson on a variety of issues, including education, information technology, and food. In 2001, during the Danish general electionsin 2001, Nedergard got elected into the Folketing for the North Jutland County riding. Following her term expiring the following year, she was again elected to the Folketing in 2007 Danish general elections in 2007.
