5 April 1979 was the day that she was a part of the children’s show, Blue Peter, and quit on June 23, 1980 to have a daughter, Jemma Victoria Cooke. It was her first regular Blue Peter presenter to become pregnant. During her 14-month period she underwent an ultrasound on TV and then reached the top in Westminster Abbey, while heavily pregnant.
Her first role on television appeared on the BBC 1 show The Sunday Gang which ran from August 1976 to August 1977 on Sunday mornings. This was a role which lasted for two seasons during which time she met her spouse, Dave Cooke, who was the musical director on the show.
