Hegarty owned an interest of 20% within W G Mitchell, the Northern Irish property tycoon business W G Mitchell and after experiencing difficulties during the financial crisis of 2007-2008 the business was forced into bankruptcy through The Royal Bank of Scotland. In spite of this, Tim started a small recruitment firm located in Edinburgh, George Street Recruitment which was the owner of several office spaces and business centers. He was able to continue to conduct business with the crisis.
In 2014, Hegarty has formed the band Derry, named after his hometown, and the group has released an introductory RP, Couldn’t I Be the One.
It was 1999 when Tim and record boss Ross Graham, composed Across the Bridge of Hope the charity album that raised funds for survivors of the Omagh Bombings which raised more than PS330,000. In 2010 Tim composed Lovely Day for Cancer Research UK.

Hegarty began his career in music in 1982 when he was drummer in the Derry group Tie The Boy with fellow musician Peter Cunnah. The band performed a live show with BBC Radio 1 and went on to perform a number of shows throughout Northern Ireland. When they broke up and he went on to create a group called Baby June. Tim continued to write the smash hit single “Shoot Me with Your Love” from the album World for D Ream, that made it an appearance in the UK top 100 for seven weeks before peaking at No.7 in July 1995. Tim also composed No one loves you more than you do for the Gloria Gaynor album I Wish You Love, and has composed music in the album Worlds Apart.
Hegarty was born in Derry, Northern Ireland to Hugh and Eilis Hegarty. He was a student at St Columb’s College and read economics at Queen’s University Belfast for two years before being dismissed. At 21 He relocated into London in pursuit of a profession as a musician. He also was a real estate agent. In London, was where he came across Julie Parry, an accountant and later married in 1997. They relocated from Bath to Edinburgh as a couple in 2002, along with the three boys they had. He lives in Bath.
In 2009, Hegarty and his wife, Julie, wrote and produced “Crabbit: The Musical” with Eddie Izzard’s producer Sarah Townsend at the Fringe.
