Timmy Simons (born 11 December 1976) is an ex- Belgian professional footballer who was a player for Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League. Simons played as a defensive midfielder. He is known for his relentless dedication to his job and ability to take penalties He scored 48 goals in competition through penalty shots, and missed only 5. In 2012, at the age of 36 years old, Simons played as the outfield player with the highest minutes as well as the most kilometers during the Bundesliga. Simons’ former clubs include Lommel, Club Brugge, PSV Eindhoven and 1. FC Nurnberg. He has played for the teams of Club Brugge and PSV Eindhoven and also won the Belgian Golden Shoe in 2002 when he was working at Club Brugge.
In his second year with PSV, Simons was once again an integral part of PSV. Of the total 49 games played by PSV played in their national league as well as the Champions League, Super Cup and Cup, Simons played 48. Every time, he played all 90 minutes of the match and became a key player in the championship-winning 2006/2007 team. Following his departure from Phillip Cocu, he was named captain of PSV during the 2007/2008 season.

On 15 May 2016, as captain, he lifted the Belgian title in the air after a 4-0 victory against RSC Anderlecht. He played his 1000th match as a professional football player against AA Gent on 29 January 2017. The club lost that match 2-0.
Simons was signed by Club Brugge on 29 June 2005. He succeeds Mark van Bommel, who was released to Barcelona. Prior to when Simons was transferred to PSV He also discussed negotiations with Feyenoord according to recommendations from Bart Goor. Feyenoord however, discovered it was it difficult to pay the price and decided to move to a long-term transfer following the resignation of the manager Ruud Gullit. Club Brugge, therefore, put an end to talks. Simons quickly secured an opportunity to play for PSV. Through PSV Simons was crowned champion of the Netherlands during the 2005/2006 season. Simons was soon the penalty-taker for PSV like he was previously played for Club Brugge. The last time he was in the Eredivisie clash against NAC Breda Simons missed one of the first penalties of his career. Simons his career began at KTH Diest, the team in which he learned his skills. In 1998, he left the team for the first division of Lommel SK, where he quickly made his mark in the top team. After a great 2nd season with Lommel the club, he was transferred towards Club Brugge in 2000. Simons immediately secured a spot within the squad during 2001/2000. Simons became a regular at the Belgian club within a short time, swiftly becoming the team’s penalty taker , and in the following seasons becoming the captain. In 2002, he was named”player of the year. In his time at Club Brugge, he became two-time Belgian national champion, and also was awarded the Belgian Cup twice.
Simons began his career on April 30th, 2001 with the national team from Belgium at a friendly game in the Czech Republic, alongside Peter Van der Heyden. The national team was a fixture, and with coach Rene Vandereycken, he was made captain. However, under the leadership of Dick Advocaat, the coach was removed from the team. Frome his first selection for the team Simons was the “somewhat older” Simons was eliminated. In the subsequent matches, Advocaat did not invite back Simons as well. From 2001 until 2011 Simons had an impressive 88 caps. He was reinstated under the national head coach Georges Leekens and also under the direction by Marc Wilmots.
In PSV’s game against Willem II on 6 October 2007, the PSV fans showed their affection towards Simons. The entire West stand was wrapped in the Belgian flag and a banner was unfurled with the text: “Captain Simons: Our Lion of Flanders”. Simons once again became champion of the Netherlands with PSV in the 2007/2008 season. His fourth title in a row. He scored four times in the 2007/2008 season. Together with goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, Simons played the most minutes for PSV, they both missed only one league game and played the other 33 from the beginning to the end. The defensive midfielder got a solitarily yellow card and not a red card, in the UEFA Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur, he received a yellow card, raising the total amount to 6 yellow cards in 140 official matches for PSV in his first three seasons.
