Tim Sebastian (born 13 March 1952, London, England) is a TV journalist and novelist. The moderator is for Conflict Zone and The New Arab Debates which air by Deutsche Welle. He was previously employed by the BBC and was the host of The Doha Debates and was the first host of HARDtalk. He also hosted the Bloomberg Television show The Outsider, an India-focused debate show.

The year 1982 was the time that Sebastian received an award in the year 1982, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Richard Dimbleby Award and was named Television Journalist of the Year by the Royal Television Society. In addition, he twice received an award from the Radio Television Society’s Interviewer of The year award for the quality of his HARDtalk interviews.

Following the political and social unrest in Egypt and Tunisia in early 2011, Tim Sebastian founded The New Arab Debates, which have been held in Egypt, Tunisia and Jordan and were broadcast on Deutsche Welle English as well as regional television channels. The debates are also held in Arabic and hosted by Egyptian TV presenter Mai El Sherbiny.

In March 2016, he interviewed the leader of the German party AfD, Frauke Petry.

He was awarded his BAFTA (British Academy of Television and Film Arts) Richard Dimbleby award in 1981, and the famous Royal Television Society Interviewer of the Award for 2000 as well as 2001.

Sebastian began his career as a journalist in Reuters in 1974. He then moved into the BBC as a foreign reporter at Warsaw beginning in the year 1979. He was appointed the BBC’s Europe reporter in 1982, and later for Moscow from 1984 (until his exile out of USSR at the end of 1985) and later to Washington from 1986 until 1989.
