Tiina Lillak is one of the most popular and richest Javelin Thrower who was born on April 15, 1961 in Helsinki, Uusimaa, Finland. Ilse Kristiina Lillak (born 15 April 1961) is an Finnish Javelin thrower from the past. She was the world champion, and 1984 Olympic silver medallist. She also broke two times the world record throwing throws of 72.40 meters from 1982 as well as 74.76 meters in 1983. The latter is ranked third on the all-time list , along with the javelin of old.

She did not manage to get on the Olympic podium twice in the 1988 Seoul Olympics at which Lillak was not able to pass her qualifying test. She took part in five competitions during 1989 but did not participate in any major competitions. In 1990, she took home the final of seven Finnish national championships, and finished 10th at her 1991 European Athletics Championships. In 1991, at the World Championships in Athletics, Lillak was not able to pass in the preliminary round (in fact she was not able to throw over 62 meters during the whole season). She resigned of athletics at the age of 22 in 1992, and became masseuse.

While Lillak took part in three events during the year, she was able to win the Olympic silver medal in 1984’s Summer Olympics at Los Angeles, California. The medals were not awarded during the 1986 European Athletics Championships (fourth) or 1987 World Championships in Athletics (sixth).

Lillak was fourth at her 1982 European Athletics Championships, which took place in Athens. On the 29th of July, 1982, she set the world record for throwing at Helsinki at 72.40 meters. The record was held until September, when Greek throwing champion Sofia Sakorafa reached 74.20 meters. The next season, Lillak also broke the record by tossing 74.76 metres in Tampere on the 13th of June. The distance was an international record until 1985. It was also used as a national record in Finland until 1999 when the javelin style was changed and the previous records were erased. In the female javelin throwing community the only two women, Petra Felke and Fatima Whitbread have ever thrown higher. (The record for this model stands at 72.28m).

In 1983, at the World Championships in Athletics held in Helsinki, Lillak became the champion in the presence of her own home crowd after she threw 70.82 meters in her final attempt. This left Britain’s second placed Fatima Whitbread in tears at the her side while she was to the track in celebration with the cheering crowd. The entire season was a great success for Lillak who threw more than 70 meters across 16 separate events and did not lose any time.
