Thomas Ohrner was born on 3 June 1965 in Munich, Germany, the child of the actress Evelin Bey-Ohrner and economist Claus Peter Ohrner. There are two siblings who are older: one half- sister, actress Carolin Ohrner, who was born on the 3rd of June in 1961. He also has a younger brother, Markus Ohrner, born in 1963. At eight months old, Ohrner began as a child model who appeared in print adsorial campaigns for baby carriages, margarine , and detergent. At four years old the model was in commercials for television.

The year was 1979 and Ohrner got the leading part in the 13-part TV mini- series Timm Thaler. The show was based on the popular children’s story written by James Kruss, Ohrner played the character as Timm Thaler. The character is child who offers his captivating laughter for a rich Baron to gain the possibility of winning any bet he places. The show premiered on Christmas Day 1979, the show was an instant hit with the young audience and positioned the 14-year-old Ohrner as a teen-friendly idol of the time. In January of 1980 the actor followed with a leading part in the mini-series Merlin as the role of a young wizard.

In 1982, Ohrner followed up with the lead role in another popular teen series, Manni, der Libero which followed a teenager’s adolescent struggles to become a professional soccer player. Following this success, he returned to the big screen, starring in the films, Ein dicker Hund, Die unglaublichen Abenteuer des Guru Jakob and Plem, Plem – Die Schule brennt. During this time, he also continued with his music career, releasing the German-language pop singles, “Frag’ nicht so dumm”, “Im Dschungel ist der Teufel los” and “Nochmal Schwein gehabt”.

In 1985, Ohrner starred in the television miniseries, Jenseits der Morgenröte (The Secret of the Black Dragon) and had a prominent role as Michael on the family drama series, Die glückliche Familie from 1987 to 1990. During this time, he also began working as a radio host on Radio Luxemburg. In the following years, he began working as a television host, serving as host of the family game show, Boing from 1990 to 1993, and as host of the teen game show Herzklopfen from 1993 to 1995, as well as becoming program director of the cable channel kabel eins in 1992.

Ohrner continued to make appearances in films and on television until 1976 when he got his first leading role as Victor Laroche alongside his sister Carolin as Cora Laroche in the children’s mystery mini-series Das Haus der Krokodile. Through the remainder of the decade, Ohrner made sporadic appearances on television, in addition to his work in the role of a voice actor voice-overs for the German shows of Heidi, the Japanese animated series Heidi, Girl of the Alps and the American comedy series The Bad News Bears.
