Theresa Grentz is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on March 24, 1952 in Spangler, Pennsylvania, United States. Theresa Shank Grentz (born March 24 1952) is a veteran coach who was most recently she was the basketball head coach in the women’s squad in Lafayette College. She was also the head coach for the women’s basketball teams for The University of Illinois, Rutgers University and St. Josephs. She is a part of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Her record for career is 681-360. She also served as the director during a span of over 35 years. Her most notable accomplishment was as head coach at the Olympic director in the year 1992, and they won the Bronze medal in Barcelona. Grentz coached her team at the University of California, Immaculata, to back-to-back- to-back National Championships from 1972 to 1974. Her efforts were recognized, Grentz’ Immaculata team was admitted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.
After her graduation in 1974 Grentz started teaching in an elementary school. She was also being a part-time as an assistant coach for Saint Joseph’s College, where she became the head coach. She achieved a record of 27-5 in two seasons.
Born Theresa Shank, Grentz was raised in a working-class district of Philadelphia and attended Cardinal O’Hara High School where she played basketball for her school in the Philadelphia Catholic League. She intended to go to college out of state, but while a high school senior, her family’s house burned down, losing everything, so she decided to attend Immaculata College, then a women’s college. She graduated with a B.S. in Biology in 1974.
Grentz had other USA Basketball experience. In 1981, she directed the U.S. Dial Junior National Team in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and the U.S. Maccabiah Team in Israel, where the team won a silver medal. Grentz coached the U.S. World University Games team in Toronto in 1989 before heading the 1990 U.S. World Championships team in Malaysia and the U.S. Goodwill Games team in Seattle. Both of her 1990 national teams won gold medals in their respective tournaments. In 1990, Grentz was the head coach for the USA National team at the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The team, behind the 22 point per game scoring of Teresa Edwards, won all eight contests, with only the win over Cuba decided by single digits. The USA team faced Yugoslavia in the gold medal game, and won 88–78.
Grentz (Shank when he was a player) was selected to the team that represented the US in the 1973 World University Games competition in Moscow, Soviet Union. It was the eighth event, however it was the first time the USA played basketball for women. The USA team was required to play against the Soviet Union in the opening round and were defeated by hosts at 92-43. The USA team came back and took the next two games. After the preliminary round the teams were moved to the medal round, and the loss from the first round was carried over. In the medal round the USA beat their three matches, which included a game against 6-1 Cuba that the USA beat by a score of 59-44. They then went on to the gold-medal game however, they were playing hosts Soviet Union, now 7-0. The USSR triumphed to win the gold medal while the USA came in with a silver at their first contest.

In Her four-year stint at Pennsylvanian college the Mighty Macs won 3 AIAW National Championships, from 1972 to 1974. Grentz earned more than 1,000 points in her career with the Mighty Macs and was named an All-Star group All- American over three consecutive seasons. Grentz was named the 1973 AMF Collegiate Player of the Year, and also had her number. 12 jersey taken away by Immaculata. They were the Mighty Macs, as a team, were inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2014.
As attending Immaculata and Immaculata, she was a member of Immaculata’s Mighty Macs and, under coach Cathy Rush, led the team to three consecutive AIAW National Championships between 1972 and 1974. The 1974 championship match was the first live-streamed coverage of the US basketball game for women. She scored more than 1,000 points and was awarded First Team All-America status three times. Immaculata has retired her number 12 jersey. She was awarded by the AMF Collegiate Player of the Year.

Grentz was hired as head basketball coach by Illinois in 1995. Grentz retired following the 2006-07 season after 12 season with the Illini. She compiled a record of 210-156 at Illinois, including one Big Ten Championship (1997), two Sweet Sixteens and five NCAA Tournament appearances.
