Thanis Sriklindee Biography

Thanis Sriklindee is one of the most popular and richest Saxophonist who was born on January 23, 1951 in Phrom Buri, Thailand. Thanis was born in Tambon Hua Pa, Amphoe Phrom Buri, Singburi province on the 23rd of January 1951, in a family of musicians. He grew up in a rural atmosphere and was inspired by the folk music from central Thailand like Luk the thung (luukthung; Thai folk music), Lam Tad (lamtad), Choi (chy) and so on. The college he attended was Pathumwan College of Education (currently Pathumwan Institute of Technology) and was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree from the field of Musicology in Srinakharinwirot University. He is able to play a variety of instruments like keyboard or organ, piano and guitar, however, he is a specialist in wind instruments , including clarinet, saxophone and flute, specifically that of the Khlui (khluy; Thai flute). His performance earned him the name “cchmyuththkhluy” (Khlui Martial Artist).

The year 1992 was the time he debuted his first solo album Lom Pai (lmaiph; Bamboo Wind) with the hit song, Tan Tawan (thaantawan; Sunflower) which was based on Naowarat’s poem Pongpaiboon during Carabao’s tour at America. United States in 1985.

In the film Young Bao The Movie released in 2013 with a story about Carabao in the beginning. His character is represented by Supakorn “Tok” Kitsuwon.

In 2016, he was appointed National Artist of Performing art (International Music) from Ministry of Culture. And in the same year. He won Lifetime Achievement Award from Thailand International Jazz 2016 presented by College of Music, Mahidol University.

In 1989, following the launch of their 9th album Thap Lang (thabhlang the Lintel) is the album in which all the members of the group, marking was the year that ended the most high-energy. It was his first. The same year he joined forces along with Thierry and Amnaj to release their debut album under the name Khor Diew Duay Kon Na (kh`ediiywdwykhnna Let me Solo) with a style that was that was reminiscent of Carabao.

He is also a DJ for radio stations in the MCOT network. For Carabao although he is a former member. However, he returned to work on important occasions, for example, on the band 30th anniversary concert in 2011 etc.
