Hildner was in various staff posts, including Battalion Executive Officer for 296th Battalion of Forward Support Supply & Services Chief for I Corps G4 at Fort Lewis, Washington, and J4 in the Department of Defense’s task force for counterdrug (JTF-6). When he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel Hildner took over the command for the Support Command 13th’s Special Troops Battalion at Fort Hood, TX. The battalion was deployed twice in the two years he was in command. The first deployment was to Iraq in the context of Operation Iraqi Freedom where the battalion was part of an Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, offering general logistical support to units that were located in the vicinity of Joint Base Balad as well as the Abu Ghraib prison complex. The second was the part of Logistical Task Force Lone Star which provided both humanitarian and military operations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Later, Hildner was assigned to various positions in Fort Hood, Texas, including 2nd Armored Division Comptroller and Assistant-de-Camp to the Commanding General of the 4th Infantry Division. After his transfer of the branch onto the Quartermaster Corps he graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1997.

In 2007, Hildner authored a paper titled Interagency Reform: Changing Organizational Culture Through Education and Assignment as part of his master of strategic studies degree program.

On August 19, 2010, he assumed command of the 13th Sustainment Command, and subsequently deployed to Afghanistan from his headquarters at Fort Hood in Texas.

Under his company’s command, Hildner posted his troops in Saudi Arabia and was part of the U.S. VII Corps’ offensive towards Kuwait as well as Iraq in Operation Desert Storm. His group also led the final U.S. patrol along the East-West German border prior to it was unified in Germany in the year 1990.

Brigadier General Terence John Hildner (February 20 1962 – February 3 2012) was a United States Army General Officer who served as the commander of the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) from 2010 until his demise in the year 2012. He was the second-highest-ranking American officer who died while serving in the conflict in Afghanistan.

Hildner completed his studies at Hildner’s graduation from the University of Notre Dame in 1984. He was appointed an Armor officer. His first job was in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Bliss, Texas. In 1988, he was a member of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Federal Republic of Germany where he was an instructor for the regiment. He later, he was the commanding officer of a ground cavalry regiment.

Hildner commanded the 23rd Quartermaster Brigade at Fort Lee, VA from July 2007 to July 2009, training more than 20,000 Quartermaster Soldiers annually. From 2009-2010 he served as the G3/Director of Training & Doctrine for the Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM).
