Hatton was chosen as a representative of New Zealand at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. She participated in the women’s K-1500 meters race between 7 and 9 August in Eton Dorney, finishing in 15th place.

In 2014 Hatton won the K-1 1000 m event at the World Championships, only the second non-European to do so. It was a championship record time of 3:49.423.

Hatton also competes in ocean canoe racing, where she won the 2015 Senior World Title.

Hatton and Carrington took home 3 golds in the 2010 Oceania Canoe Championships; they took home the 100 and 500 metres K-2 events , and was with Rachael Dodwell, and Erin Taylor to win the K-4 500m. They were the very first Kiwis in history to reach the World Championship A final at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Poznan, Poland; their final time of 1 minute 42.365 seconds made them the third fastest qualifiers for the K-2 500m race, but they placed ninth during the championship final. Hatton made up the ladies’ 500 metre K-4 team which finished in eleventh place during the Championships.

In 2009, at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival Hatton was awarded silver in the ladies’ K-1 1000 meters event, and silver in the 500m event. In June 2009, she was awarded the bronze medal with Lisa Carrington in the women’s K-2 1000m race during the World Cup regatta held in Szeged, Hungary. In May 2010 , the duo were awarded the gold medal in the same event in the World Cup regatta in Vichy, France.

In addition to kayaking Hatton also competed at surfing lifesaving competitions She won four awards including three gold, and one bronze, in 2009 at the Australian surfing lifesaving championships held in Perth. She also works as paramedic.

She is 1.68 metres (5 ft 6 in) tall and weighs 63 kilograms (139 lb). She is coached by four-time Olympic gold medallist Ian Ferguson.
