Tatiana Gutsu is one of the most popular and richest Artistic Gymnast who was born on September 5, 1976 in Odessa, Odessa Oblast, Ukraine. Tatiana Gutsu, rarely Tetiana Hutsu (Ukrainian: Tetiana Kostiantinivna G’utsu , Romanian: Tatiana Gutu born 5 September 1976 at Odessa, Ukrainian SSR) is an ex-artistic gymnast in the Soviet Union and the winner of the all-around competition in the 1992 Summer Olympics. She was famous for her performance in one of the most difficult gymnastics routines.

After taking a break from competitive gymnastics Gutsu relocated into her home in the United States, where she is a coach for gymnastics in Michigan. She was attempting to compete in the 2003 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships as a specialist in three events (vault beam, vault and floor) however, she was unsuccessful.

On October 2017, she accused former Soviet (Belarusian) gymnast Vitaly Scherbo of raping her when she was 15.

Galiyeva was always bitter and angry about losing her spot in the all-around competition to Gutsu believing that she had the option of deciding to do so. They split the prize money and then stopped talking following the Olympics. The switch was not in line with rules (as Galiyeva’s injuries were not authentic) However, such substitutions have been and continue to be commonplace in gymnastics, typically when a gymnast who is believed to be the top performer on the team fails in their qualifications, which means they finish in the back of a teammate who is thought to be to be weaker. Some other notable examples include the substitution in Alexandra Marinescu with Simona Amanar during the 1996 Olympics as well as in the case of Soviet coaches’ expulsion of Olga Mostepanova and Irina Baraksanova to Elena Shushunova and Oksana Omelianchik at 1985’s World Championships. In both instances the gymnasts that were substituted received the medal. Coaches are now able to substitute their athletes in without the need to fake injuries.

Born to an Ukrainian household that has Romanian origins, Gutsu started in gymnastics when she was just 6 years old. She was a part of National Team of Soviet Union in 1988. Her first major international event was in 1991 at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Indianapolis and she was able to win the title of team as part of members of the Soviet Union and finished fifth in the all-around individual competition as well as silver medals at two individual apparatus competitions: the uneven bars as well as the balance beam. The beam silver medal was highly controversial due to the fact that her winner Soviet teammates Svetlana Boginskaya did a more simple routine.
