Taras Hryhorovych Chobay (Ukrainian: Taras Grigorovich Chubai ), (born on 21 June 1970 in Lviv) is a Ukrainian poet and musician as well as a singer and composer. He is the director in the Ukrainian rock group Plach Yeremiyi.
In 1976, the young Taras attended the Opera and Ballet House for the first time. Along with his father they went to Czeslaw Neman’s performance. While Taras was just six years old young, he can remember the performance well to this day, including the songs Czeslaw Neman played. Taras was mainly influenced by Czeslaw’s music. Thanks to Czeslaw, Taras later began singing poetry.
In the summer of 1987, Chubay picked up a guitar and in two days, he learned how to play it and in the following two weeks, he had about thirty or forty songs written (some of which he still uses today). Taras played his first song “Koly do hub tvoyikh” for his mother and only after the consent of his mother, Chubay began to perform that song. After another two weeks Taras appeared on stage, and then went on tour.
