Tara Calico is one of the most popular and richest Missing Person who was born on February 28, 1969 in United States. Tara Leigh Calico (born February 28th 1969) is an American woman who went missing close to the house she lived near her home in Belen, New Mexico, on the 20th of September, 1988. There is a widespread belief that she could be abducted. In July 1989 an Polaroid photograph of an unidentified young girl and a young boy gagged and bound and gagged, was broadcast to the general public after it was discovered in a car park within Port St. Joe, Florida. Friends of the family believed that the woman was akin to Calico and immediately contacted her mother. She went to the police and examined the Polaroid. She believed that it was her daughter, after considering “time, growth and lack of makeup” into account and noticed that a cut on the leg of the woman was similar to the one Calico had. Scotland Yard analyzed the photo and concluded that the girl was Calico however, a different analysis conducted by Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos National Laboratory disagreed. A FBI examination of the photograph did not yield any conclusive results.
On the 15th of June 1989 an Polaroid photograph of an unidentified girl and a child who were both covered using black duct-tape, and apparently bound, was found on the lot that was the convenience shop in Port St. Joe, Florida. The person who discovered the image claimed that it was taken in the parking lot in which a windowless white Toyota cargo van was waiting for her to arrive at the shop. She claimed that the van was driven by a man sporting a mustache thought to be aged between 30 and 40. Police set up roadblocks in order to stop the car, but the driver has not been identified. As per Polaroid official, this image was taken in the month of May, 1989 since the specific film used was not made available until that time.
In 2008, Rene Rivera, the sheriff of Valencia County, reported that he received information that two teenagers had accidentally hit Calico with a truck, panicked, and subsequently killed her. According to Rivera, the boys, who knew Calico, drove up behind her in a truck and some form of an accident followed. Calico later died and those responsible covered up the crime. Rivera stated that he knew the names of those involved, but that, without a body, he could not make a case. He did not release the evidence that led him to this conclusion. Calico’s stepfather, John Doel, said that the sheriff should not have made these comments if he was not willing to arrest anyone and that strong circumstantial evidence should be enough for a conviction.
In 2009, twenty years after the Polaroid photo was found and shared by the media, pictures of a boy were sent to the Port St. Joe police chief, David Barnes. He received two letters, postmarked June 10 and August 10, 2009, from Albuquerque, New Mexico. One letter contained a photo, printed on copy paper, of a young boy with sandy brown hair. Someone had drawn a black band in ink on the photo, over the boy’s mouth, as if it were covered in tape as in the 1989 picture. The second letter contained an original image of the boy. On August 12, The Star newspaper in Port St. Joe received a third letter, also postmarked in Albuquerque on August 10 and depicting the same image, of a boy with black marker drawn over his mouth. The boy has not been confirmed to be the same one as in the previous photo. None of the letters contained a return address or a note indicating the child’s identity, making the officials there believe it may have something to do with the disappearance of Tara Calico. The letters were sent at the same time that a self-proclaimed psychic had called about Calico, saying that she had met a runaway in California with whom she worked in a strip club; this girl was eventually murdered. The caller said she had dreams suggesting the runaway may have been Calico and that she may be buried in California. Searches did not lead to any discoveries. The photos were given to the F.B.I. for further investigation in hope of finding fingerprints or possible D.N.A. evidence.
Two additional Polaroid photos, possibly of Calico are known to have surfaced in the past. The first one was found at an area of construction located in Montecito, California, and is a blurry image of a woman’s face, with the tape covering her lips. There is also a the light blue stripe of fabric behind her “similar to that on the pillow in the Toyota van photo”. The image was captured on film that wasn’t available until June 1989. The second image shows “a woman loosely bound in gauze, her eyes covered with more gauze and large black-framed glasses” along with an unidentified male passenger sitting on the Amtrak train. The film that was used wasn’t accessible until February 1990. The mother of Calico believed that the first was Tara and thought the third one could be a prank. Her sister said “They had a striking, uncalming resemblance. As for me, I will not rule them out. But keep in mind our family has had to identify many other photographs and all but those three were ruled out.”

The image was shown in A Current Affair in July the following month, and Doel was approached by acquaintances who had watched the program and believed that the woman was akin to Calico. Family members to Michael Henley, also of New Mexico, who had disappeared in April 1988 watched the show and stated they believed that they were the boys in the picture. Doel and the parents of Henley attended a meeting with investigators and scrutinized the Polaroid. Doel stated she is “convinced” it was her. She also pointed out that the scab that was visible on her leg similar to the one Calico was injured in a car crash. Also, a paperback version of V.C. Andrews’ My Sweet Audrina which is believed as one of Calico’s favourite books, is seen sitting on the floor next on the female. Scotland Yard analyzed the photo and concluded that the girl was Calico however a subsequent analysis conducted by the Los Alamos National Laboratory disagreed. A FBI examination of the photograph was not conclusive.
On the 20th of September 1988 Calico quit her house around 9:00 A.M. to go on her usual bike ride on New Mexico State Road 47. The route was used almost every day and was often with the mother of her child, Patty Doel. But, Doel stopped riding with Calico after she felt she was being stalked by a driver. Doel advised Tara to consider carrying mace, however Tara was not interested in the suggestion. In the morning of Calico’s disappearance she had instructed Doel to go and find her if she wasn’t back by noon as she planned for a tennis match with her partner before 12:30. If her daughter didn’t come back, Doel went searching for her along the usual bicycle route, but was unable to locate her. She then contacted the police. Parts from the Calico’s Sony Walkman and a cassette tape were found later in the roadway. Doel believes that she may have dropped them as a way to mark her route. A number of people observed Calico cycling on her bicycle but it has not been located. There was no evidence of her abduction, but some witnesses noticed the pickup truck was light-colored (possibly an old 1953 Ford) with the camper shell closely close behind her.
Henley’s mother said that she was “almost certain” it was Michael in the Polaroid. The identification of the boy in the photograph as Henley is considered highly unlikely: his remains were discovered in June 1990 in the Zuni Mountains, about 7 miles (11 km) from his family’s campsite from which he had disappeared and 75 miles (121 km) from where Calico disappeared. Police believe that Henley wandered off and subsequently died of exposure.
