The selection of Ogston as one the official referees at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in China, Ogston again refereed four matches , including the opening game of the tournament and the final. She was the first referee anywhere in the world to be a referee at both games of the same World Cup competition. She was not only the very first Australian male or female to officiate an entire World Cup Final.
In 2016, Ogston was admitted to the FFA Football Federation Australia Hall of Fame.
Ogston was a participant at her first FIFA Women’s World Cup and she was then the referee for four matches at her participation in the 2003 World Cup in the US and Canada, including the third-place decider match that was played between USA as well as Canada. Then, she was a part of at the 2005 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship in Russia.

Ogston started playing football when she was 14 and began officiating in 1993, at the age of 23, after realising that there weren’t enough officials in her region to referee women’s football games. She was able to become an official within Football Brisbane’s Football Brisbane leagues before moving up to Football Queensland.
She was included on the FIFA list of international referees in 1997 and 2008, and officiated at a variety of events all over the world, which included that of the 2000 Olympic football tournament in Sydney.
In 2008 she became Australia’s first female FIFA Futuro Instructor, involved in development of International, National and local referees; in 2011 Ogston retired from all forms of football.
