He is the co-founder and director at Crescent Wealth, Australia’s first Islamic wealth management company which was the first company in Australia to launch an Islamic superannuation fund, called the Crescent Wealth Superannuation Fund, as well as the first Islamic equity index, called that of the Thomson Reuters Crescent Wealth Islamic Australia index.
In November of 2010 they were granted an Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s Australian Financial Services Licence. In 2011, the company launched Crescent Australian Equity fund with $5.5 million of capital from Aon Hewitt targeting the retail market, and self-managed superannuation funds (SMSF) in particular. The other financial services include: the Crescent Islamic Cash Management Fund as well as it’s the Crescent Diversified Property Fund, and the Crescent International Equity Fund.
Yassine’s works in civil service were as a member of the boards of Sydney Ports, Sydney West Area Health Service, the New South Wales Casino Control Authority, and New South Wales Casino Liquor & Gaming Authority. Moreover, he served as non-executive director on the board of Australian Postal Corporation since August 2, 2012 until August 2015.

Then, he was employed in the corporate finance and technical real estate divisions of the Investment Bank and the fund administrator Babcock & Brown for two years, but resigned before the company’s collapse in 2009. Along together with Ben Keneally, spouse of the former New South Wales premier Kristina Kenneally, he founded Better Place. It was the Australian division of the electric car business, Better Place, and was in charge of the company’s business development as well as strategic partnerships. At the end of 2011, he decided to step away from the day-to-day management of the business, while remaining in financial ownership.

He is the oldest of eight children born to Lebanese Muslims Ali, a poor tobacco farmer and Fatma Yassine who hailed from the northern region of Lebanon. He was just four an age when the family relocated from the west suburbs in Sydney, Australia in 1977 to escape the conflict in their homeland. His father was employed in a factory, while his mother cared for the boys, who were six along with two sisters. Education was the main priority within the family, even though neither parent was highly educated and the family was financially strained. The children are all professionals, and they have around 30 degrees in common.
In the years he attended Granville Boys High School from 1984 until 1990 He was elected school captain. He also dreamed of becoming a lawyer and practicing the profession within the community. In 2010, he started working at the law firm Dunhill Madden Butler, which later merged with the accounting company Price Waterhouse Coopers in 2000. Later, he entered politics by putting his name down for Australian Labour Party’s (ALP) preselection for the legislative seat of Auburn in 2001. ALP Premier Bob Carr, in his book, Run For Your Life, said that the party passed over Yassine amidst intense anti-Lebanese, anti-Muslim sentiments after a series of gang rape attacks were committed against women in Sydney by Lebanese Australian youths led by serial rapist Bilal Skaf a year before. Carr later characterized the decision as unfair and unjust to Yassine. However, Yassine stated in the ABC’s RN interview that he was fortunate he did not push through with politics then as anti-Islamic rhetoric intensified when weeks after the 2001 election, the September 11 attacks occurred.
