Takashi Sugiura (Shan Pu Gui , Sugiura Takashi, born May 31 1970) is a Japanese professional wrestler currently employed by Pro Wrestling Noah. Sugiura is a skilled amateur wrestler was a member of Noah’s dojo in 2000. He made the professional wrestling debut the 23, 2000, being the first professional wrestler to make his professional wrestling debut at Noah. Sugiura has also participated in mixed martial art, winning the notable win against Giant Silva. Sugiura wrestled as a junior heavyweight during his early professional career. He was a past GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion. Sugiura made the move to heavyweight, and was the second longest-running GHC Heavyweight Champion. He been the champion for 581 days from December 2009 and July 2011. In September of 2011, Sugiura is the chairman of Noah’s Wrestler’s Association and holds an additional position on the promotion’s board directors.
In the beginning of 2014 Sugiura began in early 2014 the Dangan Yankies tag team along with the Pro Wrestling Zero1’s Masato Tanaka. They competed in both Noah and Zero1 winning both the GHC Tag Team and NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Championships in May 2014 as well as in the Furinkazan competition in December of 2014 as well as the Global Tag League in both 2014 and 2015. Additionally, Tokyo Sports named Dangan Yankies as the Tag Team of the Year in 2014. On the 23rd of December in 2015, Sugiura changed his mind on Noah as he joined the infamous Suzuki-gun stable. In January of 2017, Sugiura formed an alliance with Kaito Kiyomiya. They were able to almost serve as an instructor. They started to work together and were later joined by Kenoh who turned against his tag teammate Masa Kitamiya during a contest in which he was playing Sugiura and Kiyomiya and allied himself with Sugiura during the process. In March of 2017 Sugiura as well as Kenoh beat Muhammad Yone and Kitamiya to take home their vacant GHC Tag Team Championship. They lost the title to Naomichi Marufuji as well as Maybach Taniguchi in April 14.In June Sugiura was to a hiatus in order to undergo open heart surgery since his heart was irregular for a long period of time and was successful. Following his win, he made an ultimatum for Go Shiozaki, who had defeated his opponent in a tag contest two weeks earlier, and was accepted by him. They would meet again on the 18th of August in Kawasaki in which he beat Shiozaki to win the fourth time he was successful in his defense. He was then challenged to a title fight by Masa Kitamiya. He defeated on September 2 to complete five successful title defenses. Then , on Oct. 4, Sugiura beat Kitamiya’s tag teammate Katsuhiko Nakajima to make his sixth title defense that was successful. Sugiura was then a participant at the 2018 Global League, where he ended up with 4 wins, 3 losses with one to the eventual winner of the tournament Kaito Kiyomiya. This resulted in a match on the 16th of December in which Sugiura fell short of the championship to Kiyomiya on his seventh match. Sugiura took part at the 2019 Global Tag League, teaming with Kazma Sakamoto, and they won the competition. In the course of the tournament, he established the stable “Sugiura-gun”, with Nosawa Rongai Hideki Suzuki Sakamoto as well as Kinya Okada as well as Sugiura was identified as the stable’s leader. Sugiura came back to New Japan on January 4 2011 during Wrestle Kingdom V at Tokyo Dome, where he along with Yoshihiro Takayama beat Hirooki Goto as well as Kazuchika Okada, in a tag team battle. On May 15, 2011, Sugiura defeated Claudio Castagnoli in Oberhausen, Germany to make his 14th success in the GHC Heavyweight Championship defense, beating the record for most defenses which was set by Kenta Kobashi. On the 10th of July, Sugiura lost the GHC Heavyweight Championship to Go Shiozaki, ending his rule in 581 consecutive days. The 4th of January, 2012 Sugiura came back to New Japan at Wrestle Kingdom VI at Tokyo Dome, where he was defeated by Hirooki Goto.

Sugiura was a skilled judoka during his high school years and narrowly missed out on representing Japan in Japan’s 1997 Summer Olympics.
