T. Maheswaran Biography

T. Maheswaran is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 10, 1966 in Jaffna, Northern, Sri Lanka. Thiyagarajah Maheswaran (Tamil Tiyaakraajaa: tiyaakraajaa ) (10 Jan. 1966 to 1 . January 2007) was a Tamil Sri Lankan Member of Parliament (MP) from Colombo. He was a member of the principal opposing United National Party and was opposed to the Rajapakse government’s conflict with Tamil rebels. His former position as Hindu Affairs minister, and a former MP for the Colombo District, escaped an attempt to assassinate him on the last date of the 2004 contest in Colombo. He was killed by a gunshot on the 1st of January 2008 as he was attending the Hindu Temple with family members. Numerous others were injured. The wounded gunman was captured and is now being held by police in the hospital.

According to the spokesperson for the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence The gunman suffered injuries after Maheswaran’s bodyguards reacted with gunfire and was taken into custody and admitted to hospital. Maheswaran is the third well-known minority Tamil parliamentarian killed. Joseph Pararajasingham and Nadarajah Raviraj were the other lawmakers who opposed the war effort, and were killed in the period 2006-2008. The 27th August 2012 Colombo Supreme Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksa convicted the main suspect John Pauline Wellington, who was the former LTTE intelligence card holder working as Director of Military Intelligence Major General Kapila Hendawitharana to be hanged to death inside those four walls Welikade Prison on a date set from the president.

His wife Vijayakala Maheswaran succeeded his presidency as a member of the parliament in the years 2010 and 2015.

In the words of his position as the United National Party spokesperson, Maheswaran’s death occurred just as he was about disclose the names of paramilitary operatives accountable for the daily murders of civilians living in the predominantly minority Jaffna peninsula in the context of the current Sri Lankan Civil War. The month of June, 2007, Maheswaran was extremely outspoken in his opposition to his opposition to the Expulsion from Colombo of all residents who were not Tamils of Colombo.
