Syndric MarquisSteptoe (born on December 6 1984) is an ex-gridiron football player and wide receiver. He was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played in the NCAA football tournament at Arizona.
In his sophomore year in 2004, Steptoe started 10 games. He also received All- Pac-10 honorable mention accolades. The season ended with 30 receptions and four46 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 14.9 yards-per-reception , and 44.6 yards per game. He was third in the league with respect to kick returns by returning 17 kickoffs totaling 384 yards. He averaged 22.6 yards per return. He ranked 24th in the nation with an 11.1-yard punt return average, and 27th in the nation with a kickoff return average of 25.5 yards. He ranked 42nd in the nation in all- purpose yards with 127.1 per game. He also became the school’s career-leader in kickoff returns with 64. He recorded a 63-yard punt return touchdown against #7 UCLA. He recorded a career-high 76-yard kickoff return on the road against USC.
As a senior in 2006, Steptoe played in all 12 games. He recorded 55 receptions for 568 yards, and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball seven times for 34 yards. He also had one return for a touchdown.
In his first year as a true freshman 2003 Steptoe participated in every game. He was the starting quarterback in the final home contest of the season, against champion national USC Trojans. He made his first full-rotation game as a receiver in the game in the game against Arizona State in the final game of the season. He scored a career-high season-high seven receptions. He concluded with Oregon contest with four kickoff return returns for the record-setting 99 yards, which included the season’s longest run of 41 yards. On the 10th of June in 2002, Steptoe is a three-star Athlete (a player who is able to play roles on offense and defense) recruit, listed the top 5 colleges he would consider that was Arkansas, Arizona, Texas, Texas A&M, and UCLA. By the 9th of December the recruit had narrowed his choices to three schools: Arkansas, Arizona, and UCLA. And on the 10th of December the announcement came that his signing a formal agreement in Arizona to play football in the NCAA tournament. After committing to Arizona and then visiting SMU on the 11th of January 2003, and Arkansas on the 18th of January. His decision was a bit shaky and he stated that it was because he “had some thinking to do”. But, he ultimately made the decision to honour his commitment and go to Arizona.
