Sylvie Faucheux (born 29 May 1960 in Paris) is an French professor who specializes in the economics of the natural world and sustainable development. President of the Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines University (UVSQ) from 2002 till April 2012, she is the current president of Universite du grand ouest parisien.

Sylvie Faucheux is one of the chevaliers in the Ordre des Palmes Academiemiques (promoted on July 14, 2004) as well as an National Ordre de Mérite (decreed 14th November, 2005) as well as one of the chevaliers in the Legion of Honour and holder of the Marianne d’Or 2009 for her actions to promote sustainable development.

She is also the foundation of the alliance Fondaterra (Institut Europeen pour le Development that is Durable). She was chair of the European Association for Ecological Economics from 1994 until 1998 prior to becoming a board member of International Society for Ecological Economics. From 1994 until 2001, she was a part of the European Consultative Forum on Environment and Sustainable Development during as the European presidency. She then became the head of the group working on climate change. In addition to her academic pursuits she was also an official Socialist Party candidate at the election to the parliament for the 1st district Yvelines on June 7, 2007.

She was a student of economics and econometrics in the Paris 1 Pantheon- Sorbonne University in 1990. She then defended her doctoral dissertation in natural resource and environmental economics at the same institution.

In addition to its core business, she is a member of the Board of Research and Higher Education in France since 2002 and responsible, within it, of the working group on sustainable development. She is also part of the scientific board of Cemagref since 2001.
