Haje relocated to Brasilia in the year 1969. He earned his medical degree at the age of 26 from University of Brasilia (UnB) where he completed the orthopedics residency in Hospital Sarah, and completed his physiatry specialization.

Haje was a lecturer and teacher in Brazil as well as internationally and internationally, including his native Brazil, as well as the United Kingdom, Argentina and Turkey. At the time of a talk to be presented by Haje at the Royal Society of Medicine in 2011 an orthopedic surgeon who was from UK, David Harrison, introduced UK, David Harrison, presented Haje’s work, saying that it was “truly revolutionary” and “much more appropriate to the way in which we would like to treat pectus carinatum and excavatum deformities, something that we have not been able to do before”, in addition to the psychosocial impact of these disorders.

In 1995, Haje created an intervention program that allowed patients to receive orthoses at no cost at public hospitals in Brasilia. Along with his colleagues Haje also studied the development of deformities of the pectus due to the expansion of the sternum using magnetic resonance images combined with radiographic information.

Haje (16 February 1952 – 26 June) was a Brazilian orthopedist internationally known for his pioneering work in chest wall deformities , including the creation of a non-surgical treatment regimen for the pectus carinatum and the pectus exavatum conditions.

Beginning in 1977, Haje developed the “dynamic remodeling method” that is to treat chest wall defects pectuscarinatum and pectus exuvium based upon the application of braces for compression with exercise programs and he continued to work in this field over the following 35 years, treating nearly 5.000 patients. Haje emphasized that these are the times where patients are the best to be treated because of the shrinking flexibility of the thorax throughout the course of development. – with those suffering from pectus carinatum most effective in the early years of their development, and those with pectus excavatum are best treated during the growth period. He provided the first account of an incident involving pectus deformity caused by the damage to the growth plates to a cardiac procedure that involved a sternotomy done on the immature skeleton.

He died on 25 June 2012 of a heart attack. His work is continued by his son Davi P. Haje.
