In March 2017, he gets named Cabinet Minister of the Uttar Pradesh Government. He is in charge of the ministries of Labour and Employment exchanges, Urban employment and poverty reduction in Yogi Adityanath’s Ministry.

On 21 August 2019, After first cabinet expansion of Yogi Adityanath his ministry department changed as Minister of Labour, Employment, Co-ordination.

Maurya was an MLA for five years. He represents the Padrauna district and is a part of the Bhartiya Janta Party political party. He was a former member of the Bahujan Samaj Party and was elected to the assembly as an official member of the BSP. On June 22, 2016 Maurya was removed from any party post in protest of the “money for ticket” syndicate which was being operated by the party. This assertion was later disproved by BSP supremo Mayawati at a press conference in the exact same moment in which she acknowledged Maurya for being courteous to the party and for taking a break on his own, or else he could be expelled from the party for encouraging an era of dynastic politics in the BSP.
