Svetlana Sleptsova is one of the most popular and richest Biathlete who was born on July 31, 1986 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. Svetlana Sleptsova is a retired Russian Biathlete. She is a part of the CSKA club (Central Sports Club of the Army). She is three-time Junior World Champion, and she won bronze in the mixed relay in 2008 World Championships at Ostersund. She was part of the Russian women’s team that won the gold medal at the World Championships Pyeongchang in 2009. Sleptsova was an Olympic champion for relay in Vancouver.

Svetlana Sleptsova grew up in a sporting family. She began biathlon training at the age of 10 when Alexander Korchak, a biathlon coach, visited her school. Sleptsova recalled in a conversation on 17 January 2008, at Rasen Antholz: “I began biathlon when I was in the third grade. At that time, there was no other sport than biathlon in Khanty-Mansiysk. “There was no other alternative.” The young athletes began by shooting air rifles and then combining biathlon with boxing, karate, ballet, and other exercises.

Sleptsova mastered senior biathlon surprisingly fast, achieving several top-10 rankings before the beginning of the year. She then finished second in the sprint race at Oberhof (Germany) and repeated that result the following week at Ruhpolding. She was later awarded this victory after Kaisa Varis (Finland) was disqualified. Sleptsova was in excellent form when she arrived in Ostersund for the 2008 World Championships, but illness prevented her from performing to her full potential. She won a bronze medal at the mixed relay. She won her first “real victory” at the Oslo-Holmenkollen end of season competition, standing on the podium and winning the pursuit. In 2008, she achieved similar results in the Russian Championships. She won three gold medals as well as the grand prize of a car. In 2009, she had three world cup wins, but not the one Varis recovered after IBU broke test correction process.

Sleptsova’s last competition was the 2017 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Chaykovskiy, Russia. There, she won on all three disciplines (sprint, pursuit and mixed). Following that, Sleptsova announced her retirement on 27 August 2017, as she will concentrate on family life.
